November 2, 2009 - Manitoba Mandates biodiesel

The Province of Manitoba is the first province in Canada to mandate the use of biodiesel, a cleaner alternative to diesel fuel. 

The mandate is expected to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and will have an equivalent effect to removing more than 11,000 cars from the road annually.

International news: May 21, 2010 - U.S. President obama signs new fuel efficiency standards

U.S. President Obama has directed his adminstration to to develop new fuel efficiency standards for medium and heavy duty trucks. 

Last year, Obama set forth policies for light duty fuel efficiency standards that are expected to result in an average fuel efficiency of 35.5 miles per gallon for cars and trucks over the next five years.

The new announcement sets the stage to begin discussions on how to develop similar fuel efficiency standards for the larger vehicle types, which is intended to show improved fuel efficiency standards for medium and heavy duty trucks, in the model year 2014 forward.
