Founded in 1998, the Red River Valley Clean Cities Coalition is the 67th designated Clean Cities Coalition. The coalition is made up of members from the Red River Valley region (North Dakota, Minnesota and Manitoba), including government agencies, large fleet operators, crop growers associations, fuel infrastructure manufacturers and post-secondary institutions.
RRVCCC works at the local level to:
- Advance the use of cleaner burning transportation fuels, such as ethanol, biodiesel, hydrogen, natural gas and propane.
- Develop markets for advance vehicle technologies, including gas-electric hybrids, hydrogen fuel cells and E85 vehicles.
- Promote idle reduction and fuel economy.
- Educate the public and fleet operators about the economic and environmental benefits of alternative fuels and alternative fuel vehicles.
| Overall RRVCCC efforts are coordinated by the Energy and Environmental Research Center (EERC) at the University of North Dakota. To manage local initiatives, RRVCCC has developed chapters to represent the US and Canadian portions of the Red River Valley region. The Winnipeg Chapter Inc, based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, was created to manage efforts in Manitoba and the US Chapter, based in Grand Forks, North Dakota, was formed to carry out coalition activities for North Dakota and Minnesota. The RRVCCC is located along the Mid-Continent Trade Corridor. In the future, the Winnipeg Chapter and the US Chapter will collaborate on projects along the corridor. |
